The award was given by honorable Chief Minister Mr.Ashok Chavan in presence of Mr. Suresh Kalmadi, Mr. Harshvardhan Patil, Ms.Vidya Balan, Ms. Sonali Kulkarni, and other prominent guests.

PIFF is a prestigious event which is held every year in Pune, wherein 140 international films are chosen for screening out of several hundreds and around 7 Marathi films are chosen from around 30 odd films. The event takes place in the first calendar month and includes screening of movies in E-Square, City Pride Kothrud, Inox, NFAI. The event usually lasts for a week at the end of which is the Award night ceremony.

PIFF has international panel of juries for Marathi films and Indian jury for International films. Year 2009 saw a record breaking around 2500 movie enthusiasts flocking the cinema halls to watch international as well as Marathi movies throughout the event.
